What is Tunisian bulk extra virgin olive oil?

Bulk extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is a top-grade oil, cold-extracted by mechanical means, free of any sensory defect and with a free acidity of 0.8% or less. Zitouna Export supplies it in flexitanks, IBCs or drums out of Tunisia (Sfax/Radès), with a certificate of analysis for every lot. Indicative price from 3.80 €/kg FOB.

Tunisia is the world's No. 2 producer of olive oil and a benchmark supplier for bottlers, importers, distributors and brand creators. Our oils come from the Chemlali variety (South, mild fruitiness) and Chetoui (North, robust and rich in polyphenols), grown in olive groves that are often centuries old and farmed with low intensity.

Technical specifications of bulk EVOO

Every lot is analysed by a COI-accredited laboratory and delivered with its certificate of analysis (COA). Below are the typical parameters of our extra virgin olive oil, aligned with the COI/T.15/NC trade standard and EU regulations.

Parameter EVOO threshold (COI/EU) Our oil (typical)
Free acidity (% oleic acid) ≤ 0.80% 0.2 – 0.5%
Peroxide value (mEq O₂/kg) ≤ 20 8 – 14
K232 ≤ 2.50 ≤ 2.20
K270 ≤ 0.22 ≤ 0.18
ΔK ≤ 0.01 ≤ 0.01
Ethyl esters (FAEE) ≤ 35 mg/kg compliant
Sensory panel Md = 0, Mf > 0 Md = 0, fruitiness present
Polyphenols — (EFSA claim ≥ 250 mg/kg) 250 – 500+ mg/kg (Chetoui)
Extraction mechanical, cold first cold pressing
Variety(ies) Chemlali, Chetoui or blend
Harvest current olive-oil campaign
Colour / aroma golden-green, green to ripe fruitiness

The values above are indicative and specific to each lot. The COA of the delivered lot prevails. Check them with our COA quality classifier.

Formats & MOQ: flexitank, IBC or drums

Bulk extra virgin olive oil is packed in semi-bulk according to your volume and logistics chain. One litre of oil weighs about 0.913 kg (a useful density to convert €/kg ↔ €/L).

Format Capacity Per 20' container Indicative MOQ Ideal for
Flexitank ~22,000 L 1 per 20' 1 flexitank Large volumes, lowest cost per tonne
IBC (IBC tote) 1,000 L ×20 2 IBCs Intermediate volumes, flexible handling
Drum 200 / 216 L ×40 10 drums Small lots, trials, emerging brands

The flexitank is 2 to 3 times cheaper per tonne than the IBC; the drum suits first orders and volume samples. We also ship full containers and can combine formats. See all packaging formats.

Sample COA (excerpt) & quality classifier

Every shipment comes with a certificate of analysis (COA) issued by a COI-accredited laboratory, mandatory for Tunisian exports (ONH per-lot analysis). Typical excerpt:

LOT: ZE-EVOO-2026-XX Variety: Chemlali / Chetoui
Free acidity.......... 0.32% (EVOO ≤ 0.80%)
Peroxide value........ 11 mEq (≤ 20)

Uses & target markets

Tunisian bulk EVOO is aimed at the entire B2B food supply chain:

  • Bottlers / packers — re-bottling under a brand or private label.
  • Importers, distributors, wholesalers — volume sourcing, resale.
  • Brand creators / private label — see our private label offer.
  • HORECA & food service — catering, central kitchens.
  • Food industry — premium ingredient.

Main markets served: Spain and Italy (bulk trading), the United States (strong private-label appetite), Canada/Quebec, France, Germany (Europe's No. 1 organic market), the Gulf. Compare origins on our comparison hub.

Available as certified organic olive oil

Our EVOO also comes in a certified organic version — Ecocert (EU 2018/848), USDA NOP and EU Organic. The Tunisian terroir — arid climate, low pest pressure, extensive olive groves — is naturally suited to organic farming, and Tunisia ranks among the world's leading exporters of organic EVOO. The organic price premium is about +24%, for a better resale margin.

FAQ — Bulk extra virgin olive oil

What is the price of bulk extra virgin olive oil?

Bulk price at the Tunisian origin starts around 3.80 €/kg FOB, versus 4.1–4.5 in Spain (Jaén) and 6.5–7.0 in Italy (Bari). The final price depends on the variety, volume, incoterm and olive-oil campaign. Request a dated quotation.

What is the MOQ (minimum order quantity)?

The indicative MOQ is 1 flexitank (~22,000 L), 2 IBCs (2,000 L) or 10 drums (~2,000 L). We also ship full containers and can adapt to your first trial.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

Yes. We provide a reference sample together with its COA. It serves as the contractual basis for comparing quality on arrival and avoiding any dispute.

What acidity qualifies as extra virgin?

An extra virgin olive oil must have a free acidity ≤ 0.80% (expressed as oleic acid), a defect-free sensory panel (median of defects = 0) and present fruitiness. Our oil typically ranges between 0.2 and 0.5%.

How do I read a certificate of analysis (COA)?

A COA reports acidity, peroxide value, UV absorbances (K232, K270, ΔK) and sometimes polyphenols and the panel. Compare each value with the EVOO threshold. Our COA quality classifier does it automatically.

What are the delivery lead times?

Allow for lot preparation + ONH analysis + documents, then the sea transit: indicatively ~1 week to Marseille, 2–3 weeks to Northern Europe or North America (to be confirmed depending on port and forwarder). The average lead time from Radès is about 18 days.

Which incoterm should I choose: FOB or CIF?

For a first order, FOB (goods loaded on board at Radès) is the standard: you control the freight. CIF delivers a price to your port (freight + insurance included). We reserve DAP/DDP for trusted customers.

Is the EVOO available as organic?

Yes, our EVOO comes in certified organic — Ecocert (EU 2018/848), USDA NOP and EU Organic. See the bulk organic olive oil page. Organic price premium ~+24%.

Which olive varieties do you use?

Mainly Chemlali (mild fruitiness, fluid, South/Sfax) and Chetoui (robust, bitter, rich in polyphenols, North). We offer single varieties or blends depending on the desired profile.

Is the oil eligible for the EFSA health claim?

Our polyphenol-rich oils (notably Chetoui) often exceed 250 mg/kg, the threshold required by EU Regulation 432/2012 for the claim "olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress." The lot COA confirms it.

How many litres in a 20' container?

About 22,000 L per 20' container in a flexitank. In IBCs, 20 × 1,000 L. In drums, 40 × ~200 L. The oil's density (~0.913 kg/L) allows conversion to net weight.

What is the shelf life?

A well-packed EVOO stored away from light, heat and air generally keeps for 18 to 24 months. Freshness (peroxide, K232) is verified in each lot's COA.

Do you offer private label?

Yes. We supply in bulk or packed under your label. For retail, an IFS Food or BRCGS certification is required. See our private label offer.
